At LECHUZA, we're proud of what we've achieved on our journey toward more sustainable gardening. From eco-conscious manufacturing processes to award-winning designs that last for years, sustainability is built into every planter we create. In this LECHUZA Academy spotlight, discover how our commitment to quality and the environment goes hand in hand, and why choosing LECHUZA means making a greener choice without compromise.

1) Award-winning design meets eco-consciousness
LECHUZA has earned numerous prestigious design awards, including the Red Dot Award 2018, German Design Award 2019, and a 2019 Design Award, reflecting both outstanding aesthetics and functionality accolades underscore the brand’s commitment to creating products that delight users while aligning with ecological values.
2) Certified environmental management
All LECHUZA planters and furniture are fully DIN EN ISO certified, with ISO 50001 for energy management and ISO 14001 for environmental management systems, ensuring robust, system-wide eco practices across production

3) Closed loop plastic recycling
LECHUZA’s manufacturing operations demonstrate a commitment to circular economy:
They process over 990 tonnes of post-industrial recycled plastic annually, using 100% recycled material for their planter liners
100% of production plastic waste is reused, eliminating waste generation during manufacturing
4) Sustainable water management
Over 70% of the water used in LECHUZA’s production is harvested from cisterns—minimizing reliance on mains water and reducing environmental impact
5) The CLASSICO Color ECO Line: 100% recycled & Blue Angel Certified
Since summer 2023, LECHUZA offers the CLASSICO Color ECO range, pictured top, whose outer containers are made entirely of PCR (post-consumer recycled plastic), while the liners and irrigation inserts use PIR (post-industrial recycled plastic)
The ECO line is certified with the German Blue Angel ecolabel—an official government mark awarded only to products made from at least 80% recycled content and held to strict pollutant limits.
Despite being fully recycled, CLASSICO ECO planters maintain LECHUZA’s hallmark durability (UV-resistant, shatter-proof, frost-resistant) and include the patented irrigation system with a water-level indicator, blending sustainability with proven performance.

6) Made in Germany with local sourcing
LECHUZA planters are designed in-house and manufactured in Dietenhofen, Germany, using high-quality polypropylene that is weatherproof and frostproof. The company also sources many raw materials locally or from neighbouring countries like France, helping to minimise transport emissions and support fair labour practices .
7) Empowering a sustainability culture
All employees at LECHUZA receive training to understand and reduce their environmental impact; energy-efficient practices are embedded in daytoday operations across the business.
