Succulent

Succulent plants are characterised by thick, fleshy parts that are able to retain volumes of water in dry climates or arid soil. Their name derives from the Latin word, sucus, which means 'juice' or 'sap'. There are many varieties of succulent which make popular houseplants - such as Aloe Vera, Echeveria, Elephant Ear Bambino, Jade Plant, Kalanchoe Blossfeldiana and String of Pearls - and usually need to be kept indoors in the UK, due to the relatively cool climate, as around a third of succulents plant species are natives of South Africa. Succulents are often great choices for novice houseplant parents, as they're low maintenance, drought tolerant and can happily sit in full sun. For this reason they make good companions for cacti in decorative planting arrangements.
