Variegated is a term to describe two tone or multi-tone leaves that may be a feature of either outdoor plants and indoor houseplants. Hostias are amongst the best-known outdoor plants with luscious variegated leaves, whilst the spider plant is a popular houseplant with variegated leaves. Colour variation may be in various tones of green, as is the case with Rubber plants, green with another hue or other colours entirely. Common variegated houseplants are the white and green Marble Queen Pothos and the pink and green tradescantia. Beautiful begonias often have exotic-coloured leaves with shades of burgundy/brown. Begonia Maculata plants have burgundy undersides topped by dark green leaves covered in spectacular pale pink spots. Variegated leaves are often a feature of rare plants that are highly prized by collectors. Image credit: Stars for Europe
